Doggo slipped on ice, came up bloody. Her toenail (at least, maybe her whole toe) was pointing sideways and bleeding profusely.
Shes most comfortable in the truck, which I didn’t clean off from the 10.5 inches of snow we got, because I didn’t plan on using it. So clean the damn thing off, hoist the 90lb animal up, only to find out that it’s all ice under there, trucks going nowhere.
Pull a kids car seat out of my car, toss her in, and now I’m at the animal hospital, already charged 225 just to admit and pain injection so they can safely examine her. Fucking hell.
Wish her well, Oppo. Big girl didn’t even whimper.

I hope she's alright, and I'm glad that she has a devoted human like you.

Sorry about your pup. It sucks when dogs get hurt because you can’t ask them how you can help to make them feel better.
I lost part of the tread on one of my tires on my Volvo this morning on the way in to work. Turned around and drove my 1985 Nissan pickup which is fun in the ice...
Called the dealership where I bought the Volvo and asked how a car that went through their 50,000 mile service (twice!) and the state safety inspection had a tire that lasted me 1500 miles. They said I must have hit something and that it would be $305 per tire to have them replaced... I forwarded my response to everyone on their website with “manager” in the title and ordered new tires from somewhere else. Just what I was hoping to do...drop a ton of cash of fucking tires.

Ugh. Replacing tires when they're not worn is one of the most frustrating things to do

Yeah it sucks. I would love to change brands - I can get a set of 4 Nokian zLine A/S for the cost of two Pirelli P7 Cinturato that are currently on the car. I don’t really like Pirelli tires but the rear tires are completely fine - what a pain in the ass. I may be able to trade the good rears to my tire guy for the install of the new tires which would save me $100 though.

Damn, that’s a lousy start to the day. Here’s hoping the pup is alright.

My chihuahuas once or twice tore the webbing between toes doing energetic things, and that made me nervous. Current doggo (terrier mix) has two extra toes per rear paw, and they seem very tenuously attached, but 3 years in with lots of stupid activity and no problems, I’m no longer nervous about that.
But toes seem susceptible to surprise injury on dogs as far as I’m concerned, so I feel a lot of sympathy for you and your big girl. Hoping for a quick recovery.

I feel your pain. My big dog wasn’t feeling well and had a sore on her foot, so my wife insisted on a trip to the vet. Four tests and a half an hour later we went home with a tube of salve, a bottle of antibiotics and a bill for $450.
Best wishes for straight toes.

Thanks, I appreciate it. She's a big girl, and has always been robust, but like you said, nails are fragile

Dog B ripped a toenail out about two years ago doing dog stuff. Didn’t bother him and healed well. Credit to my vet he took a look, told me to keep an eye on it, and refused to take my money.
Wishing your doggie a speedy recovery!

Thanks. This was not completely out, and down the the nail bed. So, jagged and bleeded. Antibiotics, bandages, it's a mess. Thankfully, no broken bones, which we we're concerned about with how cockeye things were.

My parents’ dog did something to his toe playing fetch and procee ded to bleed all over the garage. His toe was sticking out at a weird angle as well, which was apparently just from the swelling. Took him about a month to fully heal, but he seems ok now.

Shes great, and thanks for the follow-up! Even tolerating the cone well when it needs to be on. Toe nail almost completely ripped out of her paw, just a small fraction remaining.

Awww, poor baby. Glad that she is coping well.
